A quick note

I told everybody I was trying to talk Emily into doing a video q&a blog. Well, she’s agreed, and she’s pretty excited about it. We are trying to figure out how to go about it and the logistics of a vlog, but I think we’ll figure it out. We don’t have any specialized equipment, so we’ll be recording on our phone and trying to edit on our computer. It will be a learning experience, but it will also be fun. I can’t wait to get this out to you guys. My hope is that we’ll get the video on the website by Sunday. Anyway, just thought I would give you guys an update, and wish us luck. And, as always, thanks for reading.

-Tony

    1. Emily and Tony, I have stuck my “always trying to help” nose into your personal business. Please email me and I will quickly explain if you do not already know what I’ve done.

PS I do live in the DC suburbs, Front Royal is not too far away, and I highly recommend visiting the Zoo’s Conservation location out there, if you can find a time when they allow visits.

    2. I’m not. Your “Christian” arrogance is disgusting. While most other Americans struggle to support one or two children with two working parents you seem to think you alone are entitled to have as many children as possible with one working parent who feels abused by having to be on-call. Only Emily should be able to have a highly compensated career, as many kids as possible and a full-time stay-at-home spouse/nanny and of course the ability to spend as much time as possible with her kids – because, as a “Christian” she’s entitled to so much more then everyone else. Oh, and we get to subsidize her luxurious life style by paying exorbitant vet bills. No one else has to work more than they want to to support their kids -right?

Just be honest. Dr. Emily wants to earn as much money as possible so she’s leaving Dr. Pol to join a practice that charges exorbitant fees so that she can earn huge amounts of money from the people who work more and earn much, much less.

You’re greedy at the expense of others. That’s not christian.

      1. Let me first address the minor issues with this statement: First and foremost, I took a HUGE pay cut moving from Dr. Pol’s. I am currently making 1/3 of what I made there (with Nat Geo Wild) and the cost of living is about double what it was in Michigan. Second, Tony is also working full time because, again it’s expensive to live here with 3 kids. Daycare alone is more expensive than our mortgage. Third, I think you’re going to absolutely love my story about having Calvin as it has something to do with my thinking God was urging me to have a third child *winky face*. But, most importantly, I think we should address the anger that you harbor in yourself. This anger is likely holding you back in many aspects of life. I think if you really looked inside yourself you’d realize that anger could likely be the reason you are struggling. Love! *kissy face*

        1. Being so courageous to share such honesty will bring out the hateful people every time. Don’t be dissuaded by the negative thoughts of negative people.

        2. Dear Emily and Tony, please don’t let this woman Anita Lichtenberger, ruin your day. You hit the nail on the head with your response to her. She is toxic and I would block her from any more attacks on you. I love your refreshing openness and honesty. I support you and will keep you in my prayers. God is definitely communicating with you. Keep open to Him. I have had several such experiences myself. Yay for you guys and may God continue to bless you and your family. Sending love, Anniewoo1

      2. Lady are you out of your ever loving mind!? When and only when you have lived 1 week in Emily’s shoes while at Pol Vet and then 1 month in her shoes in VA, then you can have the right to criticize.

She worked probably 100+ hours at Pol, in freezing cold, blizzard like conditions all while never getting to spend quality time with her children. There was one episode where it was her on call weekend where she never left after work on a Friday and was pretty much still there when everyone else returned to work on Monday morning. Could you have done that? I rather doubt it.

As for compensation, everyone deserves to be fairly paid for a job done. I’m pretty sure if you happen to work that you would demand to be compensated too. Maybe you didn’t read the entry about Pol Vet being in one of the poorest areas in MI, and it wasn’t just Emily being under paid, his whole staff is under paid. But when you’re in an economically depressed area you’ll take what work you can get!

And saying she’s living high and mighty in VA is just laughable. I lived in Fredericksburg, VA for 3 years and You better believe that it costs a fortune to live there! Food, clothing, GAS, rent/mortgage, utilities every one of those I can guarantee are twice what she was paying in MI. And for her to have taken a pay cut just to be able to spend time with her kids while they’re still young enough to want to spend time with their mom is admirable! You can’t always just live to work because the stress will kill you at a very young age! Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!!

      3. Neither is your attack on Doc Emily. Go back and read the part of the Bible that says to love one another as you love yourself. And think about that “love yourself” long and hard.

  1. Well, thank you. I have been saying that from the beginning. I want to believe it was my suggestion.

  2. LOVE your blog dearest Emily!
Not only are you a most fabulous Vet but a brave, honest, funny and dynamic writer (and more!)
I feel blessed and honored to be experiencing your journey…
    Tony-you rock too!
Bless you all…your experiences are amazing and leading you to such an awesome life..here and beyond…
Please stay true with all that love you hold dear to your heart…
Much love and prayers to you all!

    1. Love this! And that you are doing it together whether it is a blog or a vlog or whatever may come …enjoying it!

  3. Facebook lives are really easy for that. Just make an acct for that. You guys would get a lot more followers if there was a fb acct as well. I’m so excited.
Thanks for doing this Tony, ur awesome too.

  4. I am am thrilled I just love Emily and the whole family. I was so sad to you all moved to Va. but can certainly understand why. Emily you are incredible diagnostician with mad surgical skills and to hop it off you tickle me to death! You are so funny.! I just enjoy you and Tony and the kids so much. You so much remind me of my family when our kids were young. We have a great deal in common.
I love My Saint Bernard almost as much as my kids. Yours is beautiful. I wonder where your beagle is. God bless you Tony. You’re a great dad and Hubby! What a team you guys are! I hope National Geographic approaches you to do your own series. I don’t think you realize how much people enjoy watching you. You are a great teacher and communicator. I always learn something watching you! We need all that great information getting out to folks. When people know better they do better! The animals are grateful!

    1. A while back you were asked about doing an Amazing Dr. Emily show, and you said you’d be okay with that. I couldn’t help but think that was an excellent idea. I really miss seeing you and your family, but am grateful you’re keeping in touch with us via these updates.

  5. Hey Emily,Tony and kids 😊

Looking forward to the vlog. Would you consider doing an instagram live chat?

  6. Sounds like fun for us readers, but Emily please don’t overfill your plate. We love staying in touch with you and your family. We don’t want you to overtire and go away ! Get some rest!

  7. So excited. Love you Dr. Emily. I was a farmers wife with cattle. We bred and delivered and buried. Thank you for your love of animals and willingness to share

  8. “The Swiss Family Robinson” was a good story for past generations………….”The Georgia Family Thomas” will be a great story for present and future generations..
    Cheers, Kids🤠

  9. LOVE this idea!! Was just on the phone discussing what it was I loved about Dr. Emily that I wish I could see more of… shes’s calm, smart, funny, compassionate, and possesses a a rare dry sense of humor that’s always a fun in the narrative recap! Can’t wait to see what you guys do!!

  10. Can’t wait. She has such a funny personality and Tony is just as great. Your stories are so amusing. I love to be so welcome into life.

  11. Good luck on the video. I have never been all that great at editing audio files, but maybe it’s just crappy software.

  12. If ya’ll are interested in learning some of the hidden history in SNP let me know. Lots of history in the park. Abandoned home sites, cemeteries, an abandoned swimming pool, a few abandoned car carcasses, and other oddities, etc.

  13. Of course we all wish you luck! I think I speak for all of us when I say that we wish you the best of luck in everything you do.

  14. I enjoyed reading this entire blog. I can’t tell you how or what an amazing family you are and the power of compassion, love and humanity you bring to the Universe. Wisdom is the principle thing and you all were wise enough to answer the call, following the Holy Spirit’s Light to guide you toward the purpose of your calling and assignment. I look forward to seeing you both as you write about your new adventures. I’ve been to Front Royal many times. I still have family in much of the Virginia Regions. When my Family was Stationed at Shaw AFB, South Carolina, I spent Summers there babysitting my Grandgirls, That same family has retired to Colorado Springs and I have been blessed for the past 20 years to visit amazing sites there and my Grand Dog, Roman. I see these connections as something divinely ordered. Blessings, prayers and best wishes to you, your children and the animals who will be touched by you all! Prayers also for All the Staff of the Clinic and safety as you travel back and forth.

  15. I hope Disney will give you a new show, The Excellent Dr Emily.! At the new place that you work, do you still do large animal /farm calls? But even if you only see in office animals that would be interesting. I love dr Pole and the rest of the staff but, it sure isn’t going to be the same without you!

  16. I read all of the posts – usually I have no time to comment. I love the blog and enjoy all of the posts. Keep them coming! Looking forward to this next step. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

  17. I like seeing Dr. Emily with her family and being happy. Not so stressed out like she was at Dr. Pol.’s. To me I felt that her prior job took advance of her. I am just glad that we can read her blog. That would be so awesome if Dr. Emily had her own show.

  18. Great news about the vlog. Will you also have a transcript or subtitles? It’s often hard for me to listen to videos depending on where I am.

  19. I really enjoyed the episode where you nursed the little pig back to health, taking him home for the weekend to be sure he was ok. Have you ever taken other patients home and if so can you tell us about them? How do you resist taking all of the orphans home??? I’d have a houseful for sure! It must be devastating when you lose a patient…how do you keep going on to the next one when you’ve just seen a precious animal lose its life?
How do you find time for work, family, and keeping up on your reading to stay current on all the new info that bombards medical folks? Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all the new stuff?

  20. Looking forward to it! It’s really easy to capture and edit these days, and you have friends in Michigan in the business that I’m sure are eager to coach. Good luck!

  21. I can’t believe the little guys are that big! So glad I’ll be able to follow this new chapter in your life.

  22. I was so bummed to see you were leaving Pol vets, as you are THE reason I watch the show. But the more I read your story, the more I understand why you decided to leave. You are an amazing person Emily, that’s clear from the stories you share, the openness you display and the honesty of your soul. Looking forward to keeping up with your story here.

  23. I’m glad I found your blog. I was going to miss seeing you on Dr Pol but now I get to keep in touch through it. I always said that I wish I could take my pets to Dr Emily because then I knew they would be getting the best of care. Glad I got to know you . I’m from the real northern Michigan. The Upper Peninsula.

  24. I am glad to be able to still follow you here on your blog/vlog. I miss you on Dr,Pol but sure do understand your leaving. Looking forward to your vlog. Can’t wait!!! Keep in touch!!

  25. Dr. Emily,

I write this with a saddened heart because I won’t be able to see you on Dr. Pol any longer, but I am *so* happy that I found your blog. It enables me to get a closer look into your life, as well as your family’s life.

I do hope that your new veterinarian clinic might find its way onto television so that I may watch you care for animals again. I adore the way you never panic, and remain calm no matter what could be wrong with the animals that need your care.

Please keep the pictures coming so we can follow along.

    Brenda

  26. Dear Emily and Tony,

our family has been enjoying the times with TV show at Dr. Pol clinics as we come from Europe and its relaxing to know, there are much important things than cash in/out kind of life. Kids liked you a lot, even my wife was admiring you as pregnant you was in full duty outside at farms. Still we are seeing some older episodes at TV around 8th series. As such we have a delay in a fact that you moved out from that show. We will miss you there! But still you have this blog so I will tell my kids they can follow you on here.

I know that this kind of work is hard. It is not about some kittens in the basket, we have agri university just behind http://www.czu.cz and people there dont have any easy conditions either based on outdoor courses and weather. We came through Prague/Brussels/Amsterdam and right now NYC work experience. In your personal life you need to go on. And never look back or be uncertain if you decided right, hands on with rising family. In best conditions thats the only thing that will remain in your life.

To be honest, for us Europeans, its hard to see that having a family in US, specially in NYC is pretty hard. We just dont understand that insane money transfers….I dont wish to enter any politic message, but we are happy, that still many kind US people are out there! And you are one of our kids favourites!

PS: I read few articles here and wasnt sure where to put it. But still, we feel for your guys and we wish you lot of health and fingers crossed for you, your family and your future! If you by chance have a moment for spare time, try to visit Europe on some places, to have cup of coffee and inhale the atmosphere. You deserve it. Sincerely Karel+Veronika

  27. Dr. Emily,
I love everything about you. You are a beautiful person both inside and out. I am so happy that you are sharing a little of your life with us that loved you so much on Dr. Pol. Thanks and keep on sharing.
