Is God in Control of Our Elections?

I encountered a discussion the other day that got me to thinking. I am very well aware of the followers I have and am likely going to lose some of those with this post. I just hope that before you hit the “unsubscribe” button, you will at least take a deeper look into yourself and think about things a little more. I thought about not posting, for fear of losing followers, but I feel that I was given the opportunity to be on TV, not just to be on TV and get “famous”, but to reach out to the world and do good. Well, here goes…

The statements that started the conversation: When Trump was elected: “Praise God who put Trump in office – God chooses our leaders” When Biden was elected: “I will pray to God that our country will survive this, the devil is in our country again.” Not only are these really bold statements in general, but they are deeply contradictory to each other. How can God be in control of one election and not the next one? If God is in control, He’s always in control, right?

Now, I was admittedly upset when Trump was elected – not because he was a republican either, but I won’t get into why. Through the last four years, I’ve slowly come out of my shock and understand that God does everything for a reason. I can’t tell you why He takes babies and children away, or allows fatal wars to wage for decades, and I can’t tell you why He chose Trump to be our leader for four years either, but I have a theory.

Since the beginning of history, we have changed the way we treat each other as we have become a more densely populated species. At first it was all “eye for an eye” and “love your family and hate your enemies,” then about 2000 years ago, some pretty fantastic guy came along and said “no, love your neighbors AND your enemies.” Since then, we have been constantly redefining how we treat each other. We started with slaves that owed money, then we went to slaves that dared occupy their own land when we decided we wanted it, then we went to slaves that we went out and sought from other countries.

Cousins

Finally, enough people decided that having slaves is bad. So, we fought a war to end slavery. Then we were like “okay, they’re not slaves, but they have far more melanin than me and are therefore inferior in every way.” Another wave of thought came declaring, “no, they just have more melanin and were never given a fair chance after they were freed, but they are human and should be treated as such” (BTW, this was ONLY about 60 years ago, not centuries). Then everyone (well, the privileged ones anyway) thought they were PRETTY good people and that a utopian society had been achieved.

Hitler was, at one time, the leader of Germany. Yes, I suppose God DID put him there if we are sticking with my line of thinking, but I don’t think it was to kill off a bunch of people directly. I think our entire span of history, we have been going through cycles of complacency and awakening. I’m not (by any means) a historian, but I think Hitler’s reign of terror really drove home the idea that if we are dealt a difficult enough time and a hated/feared enough group of people to blame, we can not only be persuaded into abandoning our morals, but we can be convinced that it was right and just to abandon them.

More cousins at the Atlanta aquarium

After Hitler, we were reawakened to the harsh realities of our human nature. We would never be like that again. We had a common enemy, he was defeated and we will never succumb to that again. We were more aware of the Jewish religion and were more careful to be nice and inclusive to those of other religions. We continued to improve our humanity, better and better every decade – slow to us, but change is slow. Then, I think we got complacent again. We (well, at least, me as a privileged white person) thought that every one was almost equally treated, the vast majority of people had love and inclusion in their hearts, and that we were almost there.

Then, something changed. Trump was elected. ***Disclaimer before you get mad, I completely understand that numerous, if not the majority of Trump supporters are good people who just believe that he was going to/did change the country for the better*** We can differ all day on policies and how the country should be run, and that’s fine! That’s how changes for the better are made, but what Trump did, whether or not intentionally, was to bring to light some of the people with evil and hate in their hearts. Trump acted as a divisive sieve to filter out all the degrees of anger on both sides. His words spurned fear, hatred, blame on the other side, and he even seeded doubt that facts weren’t facts that caused a deep paranoia among his followers. He got out on a social platform and spewed rhetoric and propaganda that struck fear in the hearts of some of his followers and made the other side hate his followers even more. Some people blame the media for dividing us, but with Trump standing on his own personal propaganda machine (twitter), we didn’t need the media to know just how scheming and deceitful he could be all on his own.

Me and Tony Kayaking – me trying to turn a kayak into a paddle board.

Personally, I’ve learned so much from these past four years. I’ve learned that I have been complacent until this period, I have falsely believed that racism and xenophobia were all but extinguished. Turns out we have a lot more work to do. Trump was ordained by God. Does that mean he’s a saint? No. But, I believe God places trials on us to make us realize areas where we need to improve to better do His work and spread His word and strive toward betterment as a people. I believe He wants us to stop. Think. Consider the views of the “other side” and communicate. Hopefully this will have been an awakening and we will grow toward the light instead of crawling back into the darkness.

  1. Ok heres the thing, there is a huge chance of voter fraud, but lets ignore that for a sec. I highly recommend you read the book “if god is in control then why” by Craig Hill. Then come back

  2. Hey Emily. Thank you for this. No, seriously! Thank you. I’m 62 (63 on the 13th), and I did vote for Trump, both times. Do I think he is a saint? Nope. More often than not, I cringe whenever he opens his mouth to speak. What I voted for, more than Trump, was AGAINST some things I feel strongly about, specifically abortion. I guess I am a one-issue voter then. Don’t hate me. I love God, and I do trust Him, and I believe He appoints leaders, and removes them. I am horribly disappointed that things have gotten so ugly, especially over the last week. I wish Trump could have just taken his defeat maturely and walked away without inciting all this craziness. And I confess I have been guilty of falling prey to some of the crap regarding the integrity of the election. ANYWAY, I just wanted to thank you for your honesty, your bravery, and your transparency. I have the utmost respect for you. And besides, we’re both Georgia Girls!!!! Hahahaha! I needed to hear your take on all this. And I realize I need to adjust my thinking. You’re post confirmed it. So, thank you BIG!! Much love to you and your family from Cartersville, GA.

  3. Miss Emily, very well said. History lesson and God is a great partnership. Have a nice and peaceful day ❤️

  4. When Hitler first became leader of Germany, the country praised him. Will Americans praise our leaders? Democrat or Republicans? Americans doing nothing while the Founding Documents are changed and Individual Freedoms are taken and We The People do nothing. We allow another Hitler, under whichever party, to take control again.

Then someone else can fight for their own freedoms.

  5. Emily 👏👏👏👏👏 Well said, well thought out and honest. If it’s possible, I love you even more.

  6. Well, you didn’t lose me. In fact, you said many things I’ve been thinking. Let’s hope the “reign of terror” is over and that the hate genie can be put back into its bottle and hidden away forever.

  7. Well said. Hopefully the trials of the past week will have have us all reflecting on what we need to do to change our country for the better .

  8. You put into words what I couldn’t . I pray that we can come together as people and not just parties and work towards peace and healing. God bless America!

  9. I have struggled for 5 years with this. I am a conservative evangelical who thinks association with Trump causes more harm than good. I’m pro-life and he did give us a conservative Court. That may have been God’s plan but on the other hand, Trump has been such an amoral buffoon that it hurts to support him in any way. I am appalled that people who should know better worship the man in cult like devotion. I have never stood for any of that and I just can’t understand those who willfully do. Whatever God’s purpose, and all I can do is guess, I believe that Trump did what he was there for, and it’s done. Time for him to go.

  10. Well said, Emily….i just wish we could all love one another and live in peace…p.s still miss you on the show, and enjoy the ones you are still on…Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family….

  11. Throughout history, it’s been proven that God sometimes gives the people exactly what they want. They are free to learn their own lessons. If no lesson is learned, that’s on us. Your description of the last 4 years is part of that learning process. If time shows us that we learned nothing, then the process will be repeated until things change. God knows what He is doing.

  12. God does not have control of our day-to -day lives . That is why he gave us free will. People choose the President, they choose to fight a war, and bad things happen to good people – just because.

We can’t blame God or thank God for things that are out of our control. Praise him in your prayers, thank him for the life you have. But remember that you have that life because you worked hard and made good choices.

You won’t lose me as a subscriber.

  13. I think if you lose followers for this it’s ok. Having a point of view that expresses rational thinking and basic human decency is far preferable to numbers. Well written and thank you.

  14. Thank you so much, for your strength and courage….thank you for looking to God and His word and loving people enough to speak these truths…❤️🙏🏻

  15. You put your feelings into words in a well thought-out way. I would encourage you to listen to those on the other side in the same way. Elections aren’t about people, they are about ideology. You aren’t voting for Trump, you are voting for upholding the law, secure borders, judges who can read, and safety. Trump happened to be the first president who didn’t get us into a war. The stock market boomed when he got the government out of the way. Conservatives see non stop riots and temper tantrums, and think we could do better. What happened last week was disgusting to everyone, and it doesn’t represent either side.
There is a very true saying that if you are young and not liberal, you don’t have a heart, and if you are older and not conservative, you don’t have a brain.
Keep up with your posts. Real people can listen, disagree, and still go play golf together.

  16. Thank you, what a wonderful thoughtful way to explain what you think about these past four years
Thank you for opening my mind on wondering why God would allow such a man to come to power. We do need to try every day to pull back our frustrations to better communicate with each other.
    Thank you!

  17. IF THERE WAS A GOD THERE WOULD B NO TRUMP HE HAS DAMAGED OUR COUNTRY BEYOND BELIEF I CALL HIM TRUMPUTIN NOTHING U OR ANYONE ELSE COULD TELL ME THAT HE HAS DONE IS GOOD FOR OUR COUNTRY AND REGULAR AMERICANS I AM NEITHER REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT BUT AT LEAST WITH JOE AMERICANS HAVE A CHANCE TO B A DEMOCRACY NOT A DICKTATORSHIP THE SOONER TRUMP IS GONE THE BETTER 4 ME HUGS

  18. Emily, you have provided a much needed and very eloquent response on the issue. I have encountered the same type of comments from others and have struggled with how best to respond to them. Thank you so much.

  19. No doubt that Trump has a huge ego. No doubt that his tweets were awful. I didn’t vote for him or Hillary in 2016. I watched carefully what Trump did for four years….not what he said. He did a whole lot of good, I have to say. If you can find it in this age of censorship, look it up. I also watched a media scorn him every single day….and Democrats too. Did God put Trump in Office? Doubt it. Nor did God put Biden there either. People did. I do live by faith in God. I do not live with much faith in elected officials. Warily, we will trudge along. Time will tell what happens next. 🤷

      1. You will be happy now. America won’t be first, and Biden hates Israel. God said who hates Israel He also hates. You will reap what you sow. I’m not going to hi-jack Emily’s post.

      2. * Reformed Tax Code
        * Eliminated 23,000 pages of economy choking regulations which resulted in the best economy of our lifetime
        * Made America energy independent
        * Destroyed ISIS
        * Moved embassy to Jerusalem (promised by every prior Pres.)
        * Got us out of the insane Iran deal
        * Lowest unemployment for Blacks, Asians, Hispanics and women
        * Major criminal justice reform
        * Rebuilt the military
        * Stopped mass illegal immigration
        * School choice reform
        * Historic foreign policy achievements that past professional, political negotiators were unable to accomplish
        * Most pro life president in history
        * Significant trade deals with China, Mexico, Canada and others
        * Built wall on our southern border
        * Made majority of NATO countries pay the amount originally promised. He didn’t allow them to take advantage of us.
        * Got us out of the Paris accord that is nothing more than a screw job to America
        * I’m sure many more things that I can’t think of right now.
        * First president of my 68 year lifetime to KEEP HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISES
Our country is screwed with a Biden presidency! He cheated and will never be considered legitimate by half the country and many world leaders. Didn’t any of you wonder why he never left his basement to campaign? He knew the fix was in and he would “win”.
I don’t like many of Trump’s tweets, manner of speaking or arrogance, BUT I love what he has done for our country and everyone of you will beg for the days of his presidency to return. It won’t happen again because Democrats have learned the art of the steal and will never lose again. They will change regulations to fit their needs. America as we have known it will soon be over.

And yes, Dr Emily, I still love and respect you. Conservatives don’t expect you to walk in lock step and we love diversity of opinion-unlike liberals.

        1. Pam, very well said. I couldn’t agree more. You have to look at what he’s accomplished. That’s why 75 million plus people voted for him again

    1. Well thought out, non partisan, response. Maybe any problems are because of “We The People” and nobody else.

    2. Mary:

Thank you for your words and the truth! He has done a lot of good. I am very concerned for our country now with all the good he has done and the plans Biden has to reverse a lot of the good. It scares me to see what is coming. And another thing, there is absolutely NO REASON why two human beings who have differing points of political views can’t have a civil discussion. I think this is the first place I have found that!
Miss you Emily and really loved you guys on Dr. Pol!!

  20. I don’t cancel people based on their beliefs. I will say that in general I preferred Trump’s policies. I was far from being a fan of his shoot from the mouth style but he did fulfill many of the policies he campaigned on. Can he be an SOB? Yes. For four years though he was MY SOB. He gave the establishment hell. I liked that. He talked off the cuff without any script and that contributed to his troubles.
I hate socialism and the direction that Democrats have gone in. I don’t think I have anything in common with them. I don’t see a path forward that doesn’t include the continuation of the divisiveness that rules us.

    1. I see a path but there is no peace on that path. America seems to prefer a Nanny State Government instead of The Republic they were given. Now the hate in America rules us. I don’t have anything in common with them since my God is a God of Love and Our Government is driven by hate. We will still be ruled, one way or the other.

  21. Thank you Dr Emily for this post. You explained things, good to hear them from an American view.Yes God did use Pres Trump for a number of things, but he was not the Man who saved America.I am afraid Biden also will not be that man, though I pray God will help him to clean up the mess.Like every country the USA needs prayer and the core of the prayer should be,like for everycountry: YOUR will be done,And I am praying that for the USA , with all my heart. I will never forget how shocked we were to see what was happening in Washington. All the world was watching in total perplexion. This cannot be true! This is not America.and people praying :O LORD help America.
Do the people who are in these militias realize what they are saying? World wide such militias are forbidden ,illegal and it seems the USA has many of them.THey are a danger to the USA.For no American wants this unlawful people to continue in their beliefs they should defend the country.THe USA has an army perfactly capable of defending the USA.They have proofed so often enough.
I believe 80% of the Americans are decent law abiding people ,generous people and the ones who are radicals well every nation has them.
So I will pray for the USA,pray for this President, may God give him wisdom.
And God bless you and your family.

  22. Very well said and written. Kuddos to you for your courage to speak what lots of people think and feel but don’t have the courage to express themselves, including me.

  23. Nobody should be surprised at what has unfolded. Remember the day Trump announced his candidacy and the things he said? Mexicans are rapists and murderers. Then there were the “grab ’em by the pussy” tapes. The world knew who Trump was and he showed us every day since then. I am a Canadian who has watched all this unfold with horror. On 6 Jan. 2021 that turned to terror. I am surrounded by anxiety over what might befall my American friends next. I’m old now but only once in my life have I ever felt what I experienced last week, and that was on 9/11. I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts.

    1. Accurate quotes usually allow a better colloquy. As to behavior before being elected or even considering election, it would be good to find anyone who could pass your test “Let he who is without sin among you…..” As to Mr. Trump’s persona, one can only imagine how the Apostle John EVER got along with the brashness of Peter; and one can only marvel at what those men thought when Saul of Tarsus showed up at the door, telling them he was going to help them! They probably needed a pants change! I do wonder if you are equally concerned about the antics of your PM and what that bodes for the future of Canada.

  24. I am a Trump supporter, big Trump supporter, and I totally disagree with you on Trump, in fact I felt the same way you do when Obama was the President, I just had to laugh, I just joined your blog last week and your first post since joining is this, but NO it does not chase me away, just because I disagree with your political belief, but not your Christian belief, does not mean I will be leaving, everyone deserves their opinion…I was bummed that this was my first new post, lol, but I will get over it. Have a good one. Looking forward to catching up with the rest of the blog….

    1. I really don’t have a problem with the fact that she has different views than me with who the president should be! I do have a problem with her badmouthing his supporters!

  25. Absolutely perfect and I just wish everyone would read your post and really “honestly” hear your words. Thank you, and we miss you!

  26. I believe that God put you in my life. (If only in print)! Thank you for posting this. I agree with you. We all need to listen more than speak. And think about our words. God Bless.

  27. Kudos to you for writing this, Dr. Emily.
I’m a writer, and I know the worry of losing my readers by stating my beliefs, but I could never support a man who brags of grabbing women by their p*****s, who calls Mexicans rapists and murderers, who tears infants and children away from their parents, and who regards our military as suckers and losers. So I posted every day against him. (My memories on Facebook are depressing.) If this costs me my readership, so be it.
Fortunately we’re coming to the end of this horrendous administration. However, it remains to be seen if there will be more violence due to is rhetoric.
Meanwhile, be well, stay safe, and best wishes to you and your lovely family.

  28. Good post! I appreciate your thoughtful wrestling with all this. I believe that God gives us free will. I guess that runs against “God is in control” in the sense that we are not controlled by God. We have freedom to make really bad choices. I can’t sit with God giving us Trump. I think God allows people like Trump– that pesky free will again– to come forth, and we have the choice to give him power or not. I think this IS a wakeup call. I, like you, wanted to believe we’d gotten so much better in the last 60 years. But I think God can bring good out of bad, and can help us LEARN from such catastrophes, to put a mirror up to our national face if we’re open to it. Not everyone will “wake up,” of course, and that’s their choice. But there are good people making a difference, and willing to go up against the evil. Because God tells us that evil WILL NOT win. Love does. God can bring life out of death. Thanks for your posting! ANd I for one will keep following you!

  29. Thank you Emily for this thoughtful post. I too have learned much this last four years – about our country and myself. Your comments mirror my own in many ways. I find myself being more concerned about the issues we face than ever before and wonder when/how it will turn around. Thanks for reminding us that we need to be part of the solution. Take care.

  30. I believe God has given superintendants of earth to Mother Nature and Father Time to make corrections badly needed. Father Time has brought on Hitler and Trump to show us; and Mother Nature has given us the Pandemic to help us realize how we are treating our planet. These are my thoughts after living 9 decades here.

    1. We are now going from Trump back to Hitler. How many freedom’s are you willing to lose? Can you say BAAA. Sheep just follow each other to the slaughter. You reap what you sow. Best of luck to you in 2021, your going to need it. May God help us all.

      1. I find when We The People, of any country, follow a person instead of instructions we get deceived. We were given instruction in The Ten Commandments, that we failed to follow. We were given The Constitution, that we failed to follow. The living we leave behind will pay the price for our failures. God tried to help us but we did not listen.

  31. Thank you for being brave enough to speak your piece! I am terrified of what happened at the Capitol while Trump cheered the murderous mob on. It has to end, NOW!

  32. knew you were a wonderful doctor and person, now I know you are surely that, a fine human being.

  33. Well said Dr Emily!!! I agree with you. Maybe. Just maybe the pendulum will swing and people will learn to love friends and enemies !

  34. Think you have given powerful reflective thought to your text. Certainly made me ponder and rethink my reasoning. You are not heavy handed or angry and thus I listened to what you had to say. Because I know and trust you, I stayed with the text. You have made me ponder and reflect.

  35. I can appreciate your thought process but, please look into Biden’s voting record on race & these issues also. Please find and listen to his own words in news clips over the past 40 years before you say “Hopefully this will have been an awakening and we will grow toward the light instead of crawling back into the darkness.” Both of these men are flawed.

    1. As are all men flawed. Kamala Harris said “rioters should not stop, and they will not stop. Even after the election.”. The violence shown across this Republic, from Portland to Washington, will be the acts of the day. And Biden has not condemned them. In fact they have been supported by Biden-Harris and that makes sure there will be hate in our streets for many years to come. America will have no love or peace after this election but at least we have someone to hate for it.

  36. President Trump was spied on before he was even elected. He has gone through five years with his enemies hanging on his back, and yet he has accomplished much. I did not vote for him to be my moral compass. I voted for him to be President. It has been shocking how disrespectful the reporters and newscasters have been towards him. The Democrats have even called for people to go up to the congress and get in their faces and tell them they are not wanted. They run people out of restaurants and ruined everyone’s meal. I do agree with your post.

  37. What I consider myself to be is a free thinker. I do not believe “God” has anything to do with with anything. I had my time being indoctrinated to the ways of God when I was very young until my early teens. It just didn’t fit. I found when I asked questions to those teachers I was told I had to have faith not proof. I am a well read and well educated person I worked in the medical field. I am not in the Atheist or Agnostic club which I feel is a belief system unto it self. I do not pass judgement on people who do believe in God. I am just me. I don’t try and sway people to believe or not to believe and I expect that in return. But, to tie God into the how and why history and events good and bad have turned out ….. well it just doesn’t hold water for me. I will continue to subscribe I found you to be a interesting, knowledgeable , hard working , caring professional in your field and do like to hear your thoughts and sometimes humorous takes on life.

  38. I follow the Pagan path, so the Christian God and Satan has no meaning for me. I too saw Trump for what he is and do not appreciate what those white supremacists did to our Capitol Building. Given time they will be caught. Selfies and videos on social media, really, who does that when committing a crime? You have a good head on your shoulders and I commend your transparency. You Rock, young lady. Thank you!!! Always follow your heart. Blessed Be.

  39. As a Canadian, many of us wish we had a leader like Trump. Certainly some of his actions and comments left something to be desired but from an outsider’s view he did a lot for your country as a non-politician He stood up for the USA against foreign nations, especially those who were dictators and despots. He supported your Military trying to build it up, rather than tearing it down. He supported your police and front line workers. He worked towards creating jobs by easing regulations for small businesses rather than tying their hands with red tape. He tried to protect your borders by keeping criminals out. Here a tweet by the leader welcomed anyone in. For almost 5 years he was vilified by the media and left-wing for trying to carry out his election promises. Was he put in by God? No, the people put him in and chose, fairly or unfairly, to remove him. Americans should be thankful that you had a president that worked tirelessly to make your country again. In Canada, we have a person who is destoying what was once a
    great country.

    1. NO!! Many Canadians do NOT want anyone like trump as their leader! You are deceived and you should NOT be making generalizations such as what you did in this past! We have a leader who us doing a great job: has he made mistakes? Yes! Of course he has- he’s human after all, but the majority of things people such as yourself, lay at his doorstep, is not worth a hill of beans! Blathering on about how he dresses, or holding him accountable for his family’s action is sadly, – stupid! No other word fits. More to the point, our government has dealt admirably with the COVID-19 crisis- something the US can’t even begin to claim.
So speak for yourself; as my learned Grandmother would often quote, “ it’s better to be quiet and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt”!
Canadians do not want any leader even remotely like that power mad dictator to the South of us! Interestingly, our Constitution does not separate Church and state as our Monarch is the head of the Church, and yet we do a much better job of rendering unto Caesar his due, and unto God His, than the US who even though it’s spell out for them in their constitution, continue to mix up the two! Politics should not ever be our religion – EVER!
As a follower of Christ, I believe that God allows many things to happen that are contrary to His will; but just like salvation, is a gift, so to is free will. It is up to us how we use the gift; we can throw it away, we can corrupt it into something else, or we can accept it with prayer and thanksgiving- seeking all the while to use the gift as God would have us to!
Dr. Emily, you are wise and your insights are an inspiration to many! I pray that people learn from these last 4 years and not succumb to rhetoric and narrow mindedness. Believe you me, we in Canada, can see the forest in spite of the trees! Furthermore, I can assure you, that the position that “many” Canadian “like” trump, is completely false. In fact this is the first time every I’ve even come across this sentiment and I have family & friends across the whole of this Country, with a vast and dispirit set of values and beliefs – yet no one supports trump!

  40. As a Canadian, many of us wish we had a leader like Trump. Certainly some of his actions and comments left something to be desired but from an outsider’s view he did a lot for your country as a non-politician He stood up for the USA against foreign nations, especially those who were dictators and despots. No, the people put him in and chose, fairly or unfairly, to remove him. Americans should be thankful that you had a president that worked tirelessly to make your country again. In Canada, we have a person who is destroying what was once a great country.

    1. I have some friends in Canada and understand how your country is being destroyed by the same Great Reset agenda. My heart goes out to all Canadians. I know there are many Canadian patriots who love their country and are rightfully proud of their fellow citizens. Just know that you and Americans are under the same great danger and are in this together.

  41. Very well said. You will not lose true fans. Miss you on the show. Look forward to and enjoy your posts. Keep the faith and close to God. God bless you and your beautiful family and stay safe and well.

  42. Like your perspective. There’s nothing to disagree with here. Let’s have faith for a healthier and safer 2021 . Lori and I miss seeing you both each week and happy you’ve found a better life together in your new home. Peace.

  43. I love your commentaries! I find that you open up a lot of ideas that I haven’t thought about. I am 70 now, and while I know my time is short, I just can’t seem to (as many people my age) sit back and not care about the future of younger generations. I believe God put us here to learn and to help others and considering our response to Covid, climate change, and the decision and hate in this country, I am afraid She might be running out of patience. And as we all have learned, “If mom is not happy-no one is going to be’! Uhh, oops, I just remembered your a mom. Sorry!

  44. Thank you. What you said was very fair and enlightening. It actually put into words what I haven’t been able to put into words.

  45. I agree pretty much with what you said and am thankful you have the courage to put it out there. May I offer this: people have free will and God is not the only force out there. Humans are sinful by nature and the devil sees to it that temptation is always there. Yes our gracious heavenly Father is in control. Sometimes, He allows things to happen because we need to learn. Maybe unfortunately, we will never know what Trump could have done because the pandemic changed pretty much everything. Maybe we are very fortunate to not know. Part of God’s plan? Yes. What was the plan? Maybe to love one another? Maybe to walk a little closer with Him? I think (hope) Trump’s part is done. I think we saw what’s inside a lot of people. And I dont think we’re done. If a person shows you how they are, believe them.

Thank you for being you. You’re pretty awesome.

  46. Well said Dr. Emily. Still missing you from Dr. Pol. Happiness to you and the family.

  47. God bless you! Love the post and am in agreement. Thanks for expressing my feeling so well.

  48. Thank you Emily. You put into words what many of us feel. I spent over 30 years as teacher/school counselor encouraging young people to not be bullies, be accepting, not to call people names, not to make fun of others and show kindness. A child looked at me and “but the President is a bully and calls names”. Character matters. There is no excuse for supporting someone who is not a leader a young person can look up to. In my opinion the greatest leader in history had humility, honesty, acceptance, compassion, empathy and self-control. No one can be perfect like Jesus but we can all follow his example.

  49. I feel you could have expanded on this so much more, it feels “unfinished”, for want of a better term; like you were interrupted in the middle of your thoughts.
I’m neither religious, nor American, however, you are quite correct. Dictator psychopaths like the two mentioned here, do indeed, alert us all to the fact that evil is in this world and needs to be addressed and eradicated. Education and learning from history are the only things that will achieve this. Good luck USA, the world is watching.

  50. Well written post. I think it’s necessary to stop and reflect on what is happening in society and each do our part to make things better. We need to be good examples and love each other as God expects us to. It’s important also that we speak with our children, at their level, to teach them and help them develop a good set of morals and values.

  51. While many hold the same thought as you, I think it is important to understand the larger picture. Trump, as obnoxious as he can be at times, actually drew out hate from those who most vehemently opposed what he stood for which is America, not globalism. I would suggest you take a look at the World Economic Forum Great Reset Initiative, and specifically at their Post Covid-19 World, the end of capitalism, and changing our economy. And look at their platforms and partners who will participate in this, how they want to change the world. Those participants and our government leaders hate him because of going against this. Much has been written about the Great Reset, it alone can be researched. Look at both sides of the issue. As partners, Facebook, Amazon and others have already started the GR campaign for censoring what they deem as hateful. Several friends of mine, who never posted anything violent, had their websites and facebook pages removed. Yes, they are private entities and have the right to decide who can post and who can’t. Does that make censorship right? Just some things to learn and think about.

  52. Thank you Dr. Emily , I too think we have become so very complacent. Born in the early fifties I grew up in such a very white middle class privilege era. I thought that everyone that wanted to work could, go to school where they wanted, love who they wanted , then the sixties hit😳.
I’m not sure I have made any difference in this world but I know I have in my heart and soul. What I do know for sure is that racism is wrong, suppression of any kind is wrong and loving who you want is right.
You are kind and intelligent and I am grateful to be able to follow your little light❤️

  53. I hope you don’t lose followers! One of the biggest problems we face in this country is the inability to listen to opinions that differ from our own. I think what I appreciate most about your post was that you were able to voice your opinion without spewing hatred. May we all find peace through Jesus Christ, the author of peace. As we look to Him we can find peace amid the turmoil.

  54. thank you Dr.. Emily this was very good. I am 77 and will always be a fan. Everyone has their own thoughts on all of this but that is ok. I did not and would not vote for Trump after reading and thinking about who he is. He did somethings good and others not

  55. I’m totally in agreement with where you are coming from. I think in many ways i’m fairly conservative in fiscal matters. I’m very much an advocate of equal rights etc. I was not a fan of Trump from the before he was elected. I thought he wasn’t moral enough to lead our country. I’m not shocked it is ending as it has.

  56. Thank you for speaking out against the actions and decisions of a man who has tried (and succeeded) in dividing our country. If more people with a platform speak out perhaps we can turn the time back to a kinder, more rational society. I will be happy when the inauguration has been held. I pray that is peaceful.

  57. Thank you, dr. Emily.
A comment from Norway: The TV news are bad. Many of us seniors now remembering the feeling from 1963, when President Kennedy was shot. We were scared then. And we are now.
So good to see that younger ones like you do something good.
    We hope for healing! 🕯🌈🕊
    Anne

  58. Hi Emily. This a discussion we had in college, the dichotomy of how can god allow such evil things to hurt people and then expect to be seen as a savior of mankind. I don’t believe in god. I have disliked trump since the 80s when I saw him on tv and thought, “what a creepy guy, so in love with himself. He continued, thru the years, to get worse. Then he was preident and I had the same dread as when Reagan was voted in. Can’t people see past their bloviating? To the kind of people they are? Can they be that gullible? I don’t know the answer. But I am tired of all the rhetoric from both sides. I’m an artist too and did a piece once of god manipulating people on puppet strings. It was very popular, so I know I’m not alone in my thoughts. I could go on forever, but my 2 cents. PS, I will always be a fan of openmindedness and you… 🙂

  59. Thank you, Dr. Emily! We should all remember Daniel 2:20-24, his prayer after God revealed Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its meaning to him: ” he removes kings and sets up kings.” Thanks for your insight–God bless you and your family!

  60. WOW!! I am not going to push unsubscribe but I would encourage all you who hate Trump to reflect back on the good that he did in the past four years. What happened recently is absolutely horrid, I admit that. BUT, our economy has never been better than it was before this pandemic, we have had less illegals entering (who were welcome to enter the legal way by the way). I can go on and on but will not. I agree with your thoughts as a whole. I just wanted to go on record as one who believes that Trump was not all bad as so many believe. I pray that we DO NOT become a socialist nation as has been predicted. I always say “be careful what you wish for”. Keep up the blogs. You are great at it!!

  61. If people unsubscribe, that is the whole problem!
We are too divided. We need to come together and not “hate” on those with different views, or that are different.
Your last few sentences were perfect!
Keep writing! I enjoy it a lot. And if any of your views differ from mine, I bet I can learn a thing to two.

  62. Mia.. You hit the nail on the head when you said education is the answer! I think we need to have good reading ability.. People who don’t read because they didn’t learn better in grade school don’t know the real facts …..only what friends say. …no books or newspapers in the house. Education should be free always.

  63. So far for at least 8more days this is still a free country but even now you cannot speak your mind without being a racist, privileged, or what ever the buzzword of the day is.

I’m not a racist but I’m becoming one.
I’m not privileged I’m white and a women business person I’ve worked hard for everything they try to strip away.

I don’t agree with a lot of what you had to say no one I said NO ONE should apologize for their accomplishments.

You may not have ever been a victim of what a governing body can do to you. They are thieves cheats and only in it for the money. I’m a supporter of Donald J Trump THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! The man for the People not the system I pray that you don’t ever have to go through one tiny weeny percent of what he has had to endure the past 5 years. Yes families have been torn apart marriages in shambles For anyone to put blame on one man is a shame! How soon we forget Maxine Waters public outcry to get up in the faces of Trump admid and his supporters. Let them have no peace she said If you aren’t too blinded to see the blm movement got up in peoples face at dinner on the sidewalk It also started there the hate the fear Maxine Waters started. The woke movement only after Brett Kavanaugh conformation hearing they had to bring lying into the arena. I’m glad he didn’t cave years of Russia Collusion Talk about hate and divide Just a few examples and it’s all TRUMPS FAULT?.

Your opinion matters but don’t forget some facts as they relate to the current situation! So if you are looking to just give your opinion you should stick to other topics Politics isn’t for playground! I won’t hit the unsubscribe I think your stories are relatable. Best of luck

  64. Dr. Emily I appreciate your honesty in a world that seems to dislike truth. I have never been so upset over what I see going on in America than in the last four years. I agree that our stock market has been off the chart and my 401K has grown by $50K in interest , my sales work has been steady and I’m sure Mr. Trump has done many good things. I don’t think a good economy will stand when God decides to judge our nation.
I’m like you when it comes to I thought we were past the largest portion of racism. We have elected our first black President and we have become aware of the white privilege we experience. I personally feel that I’m not prejudice against anyone but that alone is my ignorance speaking. Until we don’t have to say “I’m not prejudice “ I think we are. The Bible says Heaven will be a place like that. Won’t it be wonderful!
I have family and friends I’ve lost to this President and I miss them! I’ve not gone anywhere, I’m the same guy. They have taken a different road. A road that I see is littered with signs that tell my conscience (inner man or voice) to stay away from. My soul and the word of God in my soul get upset with locking up children, seeing people of color mistreated, our Capital under siege , the pandemic downplayed and the bragging points are a great economy, a wall on our southern boarder, and an election that was stolen.
Dr. Emily and family, keep following your heart and Gods word! I can’t wait to meet all of you one day!! In a place where we won’t think about what color we are.

  65. I think the most important thing people have forgotten, is that we can differ, and still be friends. So many people say you are entitled to your own opinion, as long as it comes out of their mouth.

  66. Trump was good for our country and I’m a democrat voting republican. Democrat party has changed from when I grew up with family in politics . They’ve become socialist . Nancy pelosi will destroy anything good that’s left in this world . Be prepared for the socialist nation that’s about to be placed on you . May God help us all .

  67. So beautifully said. As always your right on the mark. Please keep the posts and videos coming. I miss seeing your wonderful smile on TV.

  68. I think God gave us brains for a reason. To figure out how to get ourselves out of the messes we get ourselves into.

We have ourselves in one heck of a mess. Many of us voted for a…well, let’s put it this way. A lot of Americans voted for a charlatan. Who promptly started lying, his first day in office, about the size of the crowd at his inauguration.

Long story short, things just went downhill from there.

So, we have ourselves in a huge hole of bigotry, prejudice, misogyny, and ignorance. We have witnessed first hand,ob mentality, where many people seemingly turn a blind eye to racism, to the total incompetence of our president.

We have no time to waste on trump and his minions. We realize that now. We need to control COVID19, rebuild the economy, not to mention, ties between every American.

We need to use the brains God gave us. We need to continue to figure out, how to get back to the kind of life the Constitution guarantees.

  69. You are a brave woman. Watching the riot I was heartbroken and crying so hard I could barely see. I took an oath when I enlisted and again when I became a volunteer firefighter. To see and hear veterans, active duty military, law enforcement current and not, abbetting rioters. One of my first thoughts was if there was a God why would he allow hate, anger, and violence to stand in his name. I was a devoted babtist, then became an atheist because if God needed a truly flawed man like Trump to do his bidding on earth as was being claimed then he wasn’t much of a God. Now, I just don’t know. Locked in darkness, looking for a way out. Keep blogging, it works.

  70. Off subject. Because of the show I bought 6 goats. 2 females were pregnant. I had fresh bedding, towels, and heat lamps ready. The first set of twins were preemie and still born. The other ones were a huge problem. The first was breach, head first. We haven’t any emergency vets on call so I was on my own. With every word you said on pulling going through my head. Front feet were behind and I could only get one. It took awhile and some muscle but I finally got her out, but it was to late. When I went back to check on her she had dropped a live one. Mom was too tired and the baby too weak I took it in the house. Warmed it up. And put it in my bed. The one thing I forgot; milk replacer. I gave her drops of sugar because she had no suckle response. Anyway she seemed to be doing better and was vocal. Sadly as I was walking out the door to the vet she died. So thank you, I still have 2 healthy girls.

  71. While I don’t find it surprising of the varying remarks, I find at least one common thread in all; acceptance of your post and views. I find that encouraging in this time of transition, in not only the U.S., but in the world.

I doubt that you will have very many “unsubscribers”; perhaps none. I think you will find the numerical ratios interesting. Don’t stop being who you are, and be glad that you are still free to write your views. Not all countries in this world would allow that, neither past, present, and unfortunately probably in the future.

Above all, continue to express the Love within you. We all have it, but sometimes it gets obstructed. Keep yours free-flowing as you did with your post. It was from your heart.

    Jeff C.

  72. You have so much love in your heart and it shows! I pray that one day I can be half the person you are!

  73. I’m sorry that you have so much depression, I always watch you on doctor pol and love that you were so caring and always had a smile,I miss you on the show now but I’m glad your happy in Virginia.
You are not alone with the feelings you have but remember nothing is impossible to control. You have beautiful children that you made how many people can say they created someone so beautiful.I’m 69 yr old and have suffered with pain most of my life, I lost a child when she was 3yr old and thought I wanted to die too but with time I had a son that’s 42 yr old now, I know I’ll never stop thinking of my daughter. Now with these problems our world is facing I prey to God to help us now so I know you are strong and that you’ll fight for life. I know you can do it without medicines. Slow down a little and enjoy your family. Take those nice trips with your family, I see you post those pictures with the kids walking in the mountains and lakes that look like good medicine to me.please try and stay away from antidepressants they’ll only make it worse and then you start looking for something stronger. I know you don’t know me but I was once in your shoes and it’s not a happy place so please look to God and your family for help.
    Take Care

  74. Regardless of political and religious leanings, God is in control. He has never, nor will He be, taken by surprise.
Maybe the most bipartisan thing our politicians could do would be to gather on the front steps of the capitol on a sunny day and drink milk and eat Oreos. It would be rather difficult (not impossible) to be at each other’s throats while sharing Oreos!😄

  75. I won’t say that I agree with you but you were honest. My biggest disappointment has been the loss of trust in the the news media. I thought we could count on them to he somewhat truthful, but just look at how many of them went down for telling untruths and many lied without going down. Those are the ones that got caught. If you read how Alexandre Soltsynitsn, a celebrated political prisoner, wrote about the press in the 70s you see how the press too frequently doesn’t report the truth. They tell you what they want you to believe. In the case of President Trump, they had it out for him from the start. He was never going to get a fare shake and he was too thin skinned to take it . We were complacent about the press that is for sure. All the best
